Each piece is painted on a Hercules beetle whose life had already ended. We never kill for art. The source beetle’s origin (captive-bred, wild-origin or unknown) and how it came to be used (it died in our care; it died in transit and was returned to us; it had already died when it reached us; or we acquired it as a specimen) are written on the Certificate of Authenticity. Every piece is painted by hand at the HERCULES LABO atelier.
DOT is a one-of-a-kind piece from the POP series. The polka dot is the freest of designs, making rhythm from repetition. Taking the hard, lacquered shell as a single pop canvas, circles large and small are scattered lightly across the back of one of the longest-growing beetles on earth — neither too ordered nor too loose, each dot given a colour that seems to bounce.
To set gravity aside and meet the insect with a spirit of play: this is where POP begins. The easy rhythm born of repetition is held in this single beetle — that a life clad in hard armour should hold so light a side. We keep that surprise just as it is.
We never kill for art. We use beetles whose lives have already ended. Honoured, they are given a second life as art — carrying the culture of Hercules to the next generation.

Prices and shipping do not include import VAT, customs duties, or clearance fees charged by your destination country. As the importer, you are responsible for these charges, which your carrier or customs office will collect before delivery.
For fine-art pieces, most countries charge little or no customs duty (for specimen-based decorative art this is not yet settled) but do apply import VAT (e.g. UK 5%, France 5.5%, Italy 5%, Germany 7%). We will send you an estimated landed cost for your country before we ship — your order proceeds only after you confirm. Refusing delivery does not waive these charges. Questions?
